Holly started gigging (sporadically) in June 2012 after taking a short course in Birmingham run by Phil McCullough, and then moving on to James Cook's Stand-up course at the Midlands Arts Centre. Since, she has performed at open mic and in open spots at pro nights across the West Midlands.
She was nominated for Best Newcomer on the West Midlands Comedy Forum (2012) and was listed #12 in the 'Sharp End of the Schtick' blog's top 25 stand-up performances of 2012: http://thesharpendoftheschtick.wordpress.com/2012/12/29/top-25-standup-performances-of-2012/
Recent gigs include Farcical Comedy in Hereford (headliner Chris Martin), 'Bright Club' at the Birmingham REP (see video, m/c Andy White) and MY Comedy Birmingham (M/C Maureen Younger, headliner Barbara Nice).
Described as 'Wigan's favourite daughter,' Holly hails originally from Greater Manchester and moved to Birmingham in 2008 to complete a PhD. Her material is inspired by the amusing dissonance between industrial, working-class roots and a disillusioned experience with academia, drawing on history, geography and any other subjects that prove that the world is utterly ridiculous. In a fun way.
Oh, and not forgetting a hypothesis of what it might be like if Lady Gaga had been born in suburban South Lancashire.
Like her favourite author, Douglas Coupland, Holly believes that if cats were twice the size they are now, they'd probably be illegal.
'Definitely one of the best sets I've seen in the past few months of being on the open mic circuit. Great material delivered perfectly. Really impressive stuff' - David Tandy
